Twisters (2024) is one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, serving as a sequel to Twister (1996). However, the two films don't really connect beyond a few references to the original.




The movie is packed with fast-paced action, spending most of its time in the middle of a tornado. The CGI and special effects used to create the tornadoes are outstanding, effectively showing us the terror of these destructive natural forces. The film captures the devastating impact of tornadoes, showing how they leave many people devastated and how many lives are lost. The sounds of the wind blowing, heavy rain, and the destruction of buildings, combined with director Lee Isaac Chung's camera work, make the audience feel like they are inside the storm. The film also shows the aftermath of the disasters, which can be terrifying. The film managed toemotionally sympathetic to people. 

Kate, the main character, has a keen interest in the weather and a sixth sense for predicting it. Growing up, her goal was to disrupt tornadoes. Earlier, she tested her theory in the field with her best friends, but the plan failed, leaving all her friends dead. She was the only survivor and carried the tragic events with regrets. Five years later, she joins a team of tornado enthusiasts or scientists to predict and stop tornadoes to save lives. Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell, leads his own team of tornado enthusiasts, but unlike Kate's team, his doesn’t have PhDs or fancy high-tech equipment. There’s an ongoing rivalry between Kate and Tyler.




The film stands out for its character development and relationships, supported by a strong cast. Powell and Edgar-Jones are both charming whenever they share the screen. Kate, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, who resembles Anne Hathaway, is likable as she tries to save lives. Even the supporting characters are well-developed and interesting. The characters are not one dimensional. Glen Powell brings his usual charisma, and although Kate and Tyler’s relationship starts off rocky, they grow closer as the story progresses. There’s even a bit of a rom-com element in the middle of this disaster film.

I also learned a few things about tornadoes from the film. It tries to give us some ways and explains the audience on how to stop a tornado, which I found interesting. But in reality, driving your car into the middle of a tornado seems insane to me. What if the windshields or doors were violently ripped off by the tornado? Even if my car had the drilling equipment like in the movie, I wouldn’t dare to go into a tornado because I don’t believe it could keep me and my car grounded. Also, the amount of chemicals needed to neutralize a tornado must be huge and depend on its size. But for the sake of the movie, I’ll just assume it could work like it did in the film. 

Twisters(2024) features fast-paced action and outstanding CGI tornadoes delivering a thrilling disaster movie experience that exceeds expectations.
