REVIEW
As the title suggests, *In a Violent Nature* unfolds its tale in the heart of a forest in a violent way. As advertised, this film distinguishes itself by adopting the killer's perspective, offering a stark departure from the victim-centric narratives we are accustomed to. Have you ever wondered what the killer is doing off-screen while the main characters go about their desperate survival? This film answers that question.
By focusing on the killer, the film sacrifices screen time for the victims, making it challenging to form an emotional connection with them. As a result, the sense of sympathy and investment typically felt for the characters is diminished. Moreover, the constant presence of the killer eliminates the traditional suspense of wondering when and where he might strike next. which in turn diminishes the overall horror experience.
The cinematography places us behind the killer as he wanders slowly through the forest and stalks his prey. This slow walking, set against the backdrop of the forest's serene beauty, creates a haunting atmosphere. The killer's origins and backstory are revealed through conversations.
The plot centers around a group of teenagers who, upon discovering a locket in the forest and taking it with them, inadvertently resurrect a killer with a disturbing appearance marked by burn scars. As the story unfolds, the killer's origin is gradually revealed through the conversations of other characters.
Where *In a Violent Nature* truly stands out is in its depiction of killing sequences. The film features some of the most brutal and gory killing sequences in the genre, which we haven't seen before. Each kill is meticulously crafted, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
The film's lack of a traditional score, relying solely on the natural sounds of the forest.
*In a Violent Nature* offers a unique and refreshing take on the slasher genre by presenting the story from the killer's perspective. This approach delivers one of the most brutal and gory films in the genre but comes at the expense of the traditional suspense and creepiness of a slasher film.
